All purpose CC update

Clifford Chance's managing partner Peter Cornell is relocating to the firm's New York office. The move is seen (by The Lawyer's editor Catrin Griffiths, at least) as an attempt to forcibly integrate the US operations into the UK operations, which has been a bit problematic, to say the least.

Meanwhile, CC has at long last snagged a new finance director to replace Christopher Merry (who left in November 2003). Stephen Purse is late of Management Consulting PLC, a firm that got its name from a generic business nomenclature program apparently.

But it wouldn't be like CC to kick off the New Year without losing an attorney. Martin Gibbs is leaving, not to replace Maurice in the Bee Gees, but to do his M&A thang at White & Case's N.Y. office.
