Legal Week Awards wrap-up

You can take the Oscars and the Emmys and the Tonys (the Tonys?) and wrap 'em all up into one convenient awards show package, and you're still not going to match the glamour of the Legal Week Awards. First of all, the Legal Week Awards ceremony doesn't last four hours. Secondly, it doesn't have Hugh Jackman singing. And lastly, it tends not to reward the same tired shows and performers year after year. (Seriously, how many bloody awards does David Hyde Pierce really need?)

Anyway, Addleshaws won the UK Firm of the Year Award, while Milbank Tweed snagged the International Firm of the Year (as well as the snazzy dressers award, given by Joan Rivers outside the Old Billingsgate Market after the ceremony).

The in-house legal team at Marks & Spencer landed the UK Legal Department of the Year, the prize for which ironically was the department store's Festive Cheer Christmas snack package, complete with shortcake biccies and stupid, bloody, gross Christmas pudding. (Which, during the afterparty, was lobbed at Joan Rivers.)

Other winners included Linklaters (Finance Team), Freshfields (Litigation Team), Lovells (Property Team), Slaughter & May (M&A Team), and Neville Eisenberg of Berwin (BER-win?) Leighton Paisner snatching the Partner of the Year honors. You can click on the rest of the winners here.
